LOHS’ canned food drive aims to collect 30,000 cans

This winter, LOHS students are once again coming together to raise funds for a good cause: the canned food drive. From Dec. 5 to Dec. 12, students can bring in cans or money to support the food pantry of Hunger Fighters Oregon, a nonprofit organization created by LOHS sophomore Michael Murray. Murray says the organization’s goal is “to provide food for those who are struggling with food security in our community.”

Students are encouraged to bring donations to their A2 class; the class that collects the most cans will earn a pizza party.

Last year, LOHS collected an impressive 33,000 cans. This year, they are aiming just as high, with students and staff alike promising to do outlandish activities should the school collect 30,000 cans. For example, senior Will Cohen pledged to dye his eyebrows bleach blonde for a week; teacher Chris Hill promised to dress up like a cowboy and teach students a line dance.
