For Lake Oswego star running back Casey Filkins, Monday, Nov. 19 was a “dream come true.” The Stanford Cardinal commit was awarded his 2019 All American Bowl Jersey, a game that will be played on Jan. 4, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. This high profile game will feature 100 of the top high school football players in the country, 50 of which coming from the West and the other 50 coming out of the East. Filkins said about his invitation to this prestigious event, “It’s very gratifying to be awarded with this recognition and opportunity to play in this game. It also inspires me to want to work even harder.”
Joining Filkins in San Antonio is Head Football Coach, Steve Coury. Finishing up his 28th year of coaching for the Lakers, Coury received his first invitation to be a coach at the game. Coury, who will head the sideline for the West team, said that “It’s an honor to [coach in this game} and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Casey and I to go back there and represent the community.”
Both Filkins and Coury also wanted to recognize their fellow coaches and teammates for helping them achieve the award. For now, the two will try to finish off the year as state champions, before heading down to the Longhorn state.
