Clark Jones (He/Him)
Why should a student, who has potentially never met or interacted with you, vote for you?
First of all, if I haven’t already met you please come up and say hi. Secondly, I’m running for asb president because I think the school atmosphere can be more inclusive and that has a lot to do with the lack of student representation and involvement. Our school spirit’s dwindled down in recent years and now with the coronavirus we’re more separated then ever. I plan to hit the ground running and put on events that create unity and are fun for everyone. Having served in student government, I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t. If elected president, I want to create an environment that brings out the best in everyone and makes school more enjoyable and a kinder place to be. Next year’s going to be great and I would sincerely appreciate your vote.
Why did you choose to apply for this position, specifically?
Having previously worked in student government I’ve learned that asb president is the position that will allow me to have the greatest impact in the lives of LOHS students. I have had such a great experience so far and I want to make sure that everyone has the same opportunity to graduate with fun and positive memories. Asb president is a platform that will allow me to make real change in the events and activities that happen at our school.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
What sets me apart is my enthusiasm for LOHS and the skill set that I will bring to leadership. In addition to my previous leadership experience, I have been involved in a wide variety of activities at the school. From sports, clubs and community service projects, I have always demonstrated my commitment to achieving goals and have made sure that everyone’s voices were heard. I will bring this same drive and commitment to LOHS next year.
How would students know that you’re willing to put in the work for our school?
Students can see from my time in leadership that I’m always ready to put in the work. From Halloween carnivals to innovative hoco floats I’ve been working non stop to create the best school environment possible. Even in quarantine I’ve been using the @lohs2021 instagram to highlight some of the talented students whose efforts were cut by the coronavirus.
What are your greatest weaknesses regarding your position/leadership? How will you work to combat that? Conversely, what are your greatest strengths regarding your position/leadership? How will you use that to your advantage?
I can get super excited about a bunch of different things which can sometimes result in me adding too much to my plate. I have learned to prioritize my projects so that I can give 100% effort to each task. That way I can guarantee that I’m giving the student body the best and highest quality events.
On the other hand, some of my greatest strengths are my creativity and dedication. I like to go beyond expectations and think outside of the box. I often find new and innovative ways to put on an event. For instance, I ended up rapping for Mayfete while doing a Zumba dance. It’s stuff like this that will make next year interesting and not just a repeat of past events.
What do you think makes a good leader?
A leader’s purpose is to serve others and create a positive environment for everyone. To do this, they must be open to suggestions and inclusive. A good leader needs to be able to come up with creative solutions to solving problems and do the right thing. A leader should be encouraging, supportive, and always hold themselves accountable.
What would you like to convey about yourself that the applications on loelections.com didn’t allow you to?
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the gap between this school year and the next is longer. This means that there is a great opportunity to mold the culture and community we want when we get back as our sense of normalcy will be more distant. I plan to work extremely hard at the get-go to make an inclusive and fun environment that makes LO feel more like a home to everyone.
Is there anything else you would like to say to students reading this?
I sincerely want to hear your ideas. I will work hard next year. I would appreciate your vote!
