On Sunday, Jan. 19, the LOHS girls bowling team concluded their regular season with their participation in the district tournament at Kellogg Bowl in Milwaukie. The tournament was a five-way contest between Milwaukie, Oregon City, Umatilla, Gresham-Barlow and Lake Oswego’s six teams.

The tournament, which lasted a full day, consisted of a 20 game preliminary competition between all teams. The top six teams, including Lake Oswego’s Navy and White teams, then moved onto a second round of 10 games to compete for one of the three state qualification spots.

Lake Oswego’s Navy team ended the day at third overall, securing a spot in the state tournament in Salem. Oregon City passed in the semifinal round, finishing in first place.

“It was fun to bowl and to see all of the new people from other schools” said senior Abby Tomita. “Schools like Umatilla traveled three hours to attend the tournament,” she said. Lake Oswego was the only school that brought more than one team.

Senior Alicia Lopez, a member of the state-qualified Navy team, was happy with their performance in the competition. “We bowled against and beat some of the top teams in the  tournament. We didn’t really know what to expect, so it was super exciting to qualify for state in our first year,” she said.

The Navy team will compete at the Oregon state tournament in Salem on Feb. 22 and 23. “I’m looking forward to competing against new teams and spending more time with my team,” Lopez said.
