Swim team makes a splash
After a great start to the swim season, the team is looking forward to its upcoming meets. Both the girls and boys team have two more meets on the year, including facing off against Lakeridge next week. The boys team is undefeated as this point in the year. The girls team is winless so far, because of sickness and swimmers missing meets due to prior commitments.
After the last two meets, the team will move onto districts and then state. First year swim coach Geoff Marsden has enjoyed his year as the head coach. “They are all really good kids, and smart too. They have a lot going on outside of the pool, and it takes a special person to juggle everything that they do,” Marsden said.
The team is led by four senior captains: Haily Oldham, Michael Bell, Ryan Miller and Penny Spurr. “My favorite thing is when there’s a really close race and everyone is on edge and cheering loud to see who’s going to win,” Oldham said.
“I’m really excited to see us compete in our dual meet against Lakeridge as we can size up against their swimmers. The district competition will also be stellar because we will be going head-on with all of the other schools in our district,” Miller said.
