This year, leadership decided to put on the Homecoming dance in the cafeteria rather than the library like previous years. There have often been debates about dance venues; however, the student body appears to have enjoyed themselves despite the location change.
According to a poll posted on the Lake Views Instagram, 58 percent of students who voted preferred the cafeteria over the 42 percent who liked the library better. For me personally, I honestly liked the library more for a couple of reasons. Despite the issue of the excessive heat emerging from the mosh pit, the library forced people to come together to talk and dance, unlike the cliquey friend groups in the bigger cafeteria. I noticed a lot more people standing off to the side this year, likely due to the empty space. The confined space of the library meant that attendees had no choice but to interact with each other, making it a more inclusive and welcoming environment for people to have fun. The heat issue might have been a concern last year, but that will honestly happen in any room where there are a bunch of high school students jumping around and sweating..
While the cafeteria undoubtedly had its advantages, such as better ventilation and ample space for dancing and socializing, it’s also important to consider the social dynamics when planning school functions for the student body.
