The annual Care and Share Toy Drive was back this holiday season at LOHS. This year the toy drive was run by the Freshman Class leadership and went on from Dec. 4 all the way till Dec. 13.
The toy drive was a great thing that happens every year here at LOHS that allows the students and facility to chip in and help spread holiday cheer to children who really need it. “Our goal [was] to just raise as many toys as we can for the kids and make them happy,” said freshman class officer Lilly Kaisi.
Every toy that was donated was given to Randall Children’s Hospital. One of the main goals of the toy drive was to give kid patients in the Portland area who aren’t that fortunate toys this holiday season that would put a smile on their face.
“Our freshman class wanted to start the toy drive to give other kids the chance to enjoy the holidays just as much as us,” said Kaisi. The freshman class officers wanted to make a bang this year with the toy drive by making an impact philanthropically and giving as many toys as they possibly can.
One of the most exciting things about having the annual toy drive at LOHS is being able to donate to these organizations and put smiles on kids faces. “I think the most exciting part is when we will get to go to Randall Children’s Hospital and donate the toys, and hopefully looking into full bins at the end of the day,” said freshman class officer Jashn Pande.
The toy drive was also treated as a schoolwide class competition against each class, where each grade had their own bin in the lobby of the school where the respected grade would donate brand new toys or money. As the toy drive this year came to an end it brought smiles to everyone’s faces to be able to provide to children and spread holiday joy this season.
