Cross country season takes off at lightning speed
Lake Oswego’s cross country season has taken off at lightning speed. The Lakers are preparing day in and day out for each meet. Once they overcame the awkwardness of starting a new season it has been full speed ahead for the cross country team.
“[The season] has been going pretty well now that we’ve gotten into a rhythm,” said junior runner Emily Joyce. “The season is really flying by.”
Since last season the Lakers have added a few new coaches to the team. The cross country team is led by head coach Vince Kinney with assistant coaches Steve Edwards, Steve Flanagan, Brittany Long, Greg Long and Kyle Vuksich.
“They are all like super experienced runners. They can be a bit intense and strict, but we are getting a lot better” stated Joyce.
Besides the coaching additions, the Lakers have made a few other changes in order to better prepare themselves for competition.
“The workouts are a lot harder as we are getting in a lot more miles every week.” With experienced coaches and a strong training plan the cross country team is putting themselves in a position to be successful.
Despite the intense workouts, cross country still manages to have a lot of fun. “The team environment and getting to hang out with my friend is probably the best part of cross country and pasta feeds are always a good time,” said Joyce.
The Lake Oswego cross country team is in a great spot to see a ton of new personal bests and to grow as a team.
