College football: Peach Bowl playoffs
More stories from Carter Daniels
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the annual college football bowl schedule was set. The two biggest games are a part of the College Football Playoffs, which features two semifinal games that four teams have to win in order to earn their right in the National Championship game on Jan. 13, 2020 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. In the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the #1 LSU Tigers will play the #4 Oklahoma Sooners in Atlanta. In the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, the other semifinal game, #2 Ohio State will play #3 Clemson. The winners of both will then play for the national championship.
Although most of the best teams in college football this year were expected to be where they are right now, there is one team that did not live up to their expectations. That team is the #13 Alabama Crimson Tide. Their star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was one of the favorites to win the Heisman trophy before his devastating hip injury he suffered in week 10 against Mississippi State; however, even after his injury, he is still projected to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft next year.
For Oregon Ducks fans: the team had a great season as they won the Pac-12, beating #5 Utah in the Pac-12 championship game and winning 37-15, kicking Utah out of any chances to be in the College Football playoff. To start off the new year, on Jan. 1, the #6 Ducks will play the #8 Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, which is a rematch of the 2012 Rose Bowl in which Oregon won 45-38.
