Basketball looks to continue league momentum

After a month into the season, the boy basketball team is more than halfway done with their season. As of Jan. 30, the team has an 8-8 record and is currently undefeated in league play. Senior Sam Abere describes the season so far by saying, “We got off to a rocky start where we lost a lot of close games,” however, he believes, “we’ve had a change of mindset where we’re having people more focused.”

Looking forward the team is looking to capture a 3rd straight Three Rivers League championship as well as make another deep run in the playoffs. All of the team’s remaining games are league games and to win the Three Rivers League crown, Abere believes they must be prepared to play West Linn and Canby in particular. West Linn is currently undefeated as well in League play, and will play the Lakers on Feb. 5 as well as Feb. 28. Canby is currently third in the Three Rivers League behind West Linn and the Lakers and Abere takes note because “they’ve had close run-ins with a lot of good teams and are under the radar so were not going to overlook them.”

When looking towards the rest of his senior season, Abere says, “Love the group of guys that we have and we’re still working on the team chemistry but besides that, I couldn’t be more excited.”
