Young LOHS wrestling team sends two to state

The LO wrestling team has had a difficult season after facing the challenge of being a young team head on.  The Laker varsity team is composed of four freshmen: Riis Heinrichs, Bennet Friess, William Dolan and Grant Rushford; one sophomore: Braden Mauch; two juniors: Elizabeth Cuyuch and Katie Cantrell; and only one senior: Lucas Cuyuch.  Being so young, they have struggled as a unit so far this year, but the team has had some impressive individual performances.

Lucas Cuyuch, the sole senior on the squad, remarked that his unique position “holds a lot of responsibility, including trying to make sure the team is always trying to move in the right direction for the future,” which, to him, “looks really good [because] we have a lot of young talent to look forward to.”

Both Henrichs (2nd place at districts) and Cantrell will be representing the Lakers at the OregonState Tournament, taking place on Feb. 28-29.
