Ever noticed how you’re getting to class later than usual? Ever notice how you can barely walk through the “senior commons” without running into someone? This is probably because of all the freshmen standing around. A habit that the freshmen have gotten into this year is standing in the middle of the hallway, especially during passing periods and breaks, making it near impossible to walk freely. In past years, more and more freshmen have been migrating to the second floor, a once coveted section of the school that was reserved for the upperclassmen, mainly seniors. Originally, the different sections of the school have been named as separate places for students of the four classes to spend time during break and talk to their friends.
This is an opinion also shared by fellow underclassmen, many of whom share the difficulty and annoyance of having to weave their way through groups of people that could easily stand to one side. Lucas Fiscus, a sophomore, mentions the sheer amount of freshmen stating that “they multiply” even though the freshman class is a similar size to past years. Fiscus provides a simple solution that the freshman should “just choose a side” and not stand in the middle of the hall. Junior Annalena Privatera remarks about the difficulty of making your way through the halls saying, “you’re constantly trying to not get pushed or push people.” This shift in behavior and positioning in the last four years has been drastic, and many students wonder why that is. All in all, it is agreed upon that the freshman need to get out of the way and stand to one side or stick to the first floor, instead of making other students late to class and being unapologetic for it.
