It’s that time of year again; the air is getting crisper, people are getting slightly happier and the annual Grammy nominations go public. The Grammys are an award ceremony that acknowledges the most prestigious and outstanding achievements within the music industry. This award ceremony has been going on for 67 years and is one of the highest honors an artist can receive. The categories for receiving this award include Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and many more.
Last year’s Grammys winners were questionable. Many, myself included, believed that a lot of the artists got snubbed last year. Not to say who won didn’t deserve it, but I think there were better choices for winners.The nominees we will see this year are Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber and Bad Bunny.
The 2026 Nominations this year for best new artists are Alex Warren, Somber, The Marias, Katseye, Addison Rae, Leon Thomas, Oliva Dean and Lola Young. Some of these artists are great, others not so much. The Marias are a great band, but they have been around for years, making them not as relevant as the fresh talent, newer artists. They have recently become more mainstream since their song “No One Noticed” started to blow up on TikTok. Many of these nominees are fairly new, such as Alex Warren and Addison Rae, two previous TikTokers who were in the Hype House. Both are talented and are good runners for the award, but not a very popular pick with most people. Lola Young and Katseye, similar to the Marias, are not new artists but new mainstream artists. So out of all these nominees, I would say that the artist who has the biggest and the highest chance of winning would be Olivia Dean. She is a new artist and is very popular amongst all generations. She has many songs that have been blowing up, compared to other artists on this list who only have one song that is blowing up. Her music and lyrics are well thought out. Out of everyone, I truly believed that she had the best chance of winning, and would be the best choice.
Another popular award, which can also be seen as the best award that an artist can win, is Record of the Year and Song of the Year, which pretty much means the same thing, except that Record of the Year honors the entire production of the song, while Song of the Year honors the writers and the lyrics of the song. This year, similar to past years, the nominees are, “DtMF” by Bad Bunny, “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish, “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga, “The Subway” by Chappell Roan and “Apt” by Bruno Mars and Rose. All these nominees are the same for the song of the year, except that “The Subway” is not on the list, and “GOLDEN” by KPOP Demon Hunters and “Anxiety” by Docehii are. For both of the nominations, I believe that “Luther” by Kendrick and SZA will win because it was a massive hit. As a matter of fact, the whole album was. But who I believe should win is “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish because I think she was snubbed last year, not winning a single one of her nominations. Her loss being constantly rubbed in her face throughout the awards ceremony, since every time she lost they would pan the camera to her, was completely unfair, and I believe she deserves to be treated differently this year. Because of this, I feel that she deserves to win, but also because “Wildflower” is an incredibly written song, with millions of streams, as it’s one of her most beloved songs.
