Artificial Intelligence has been an increasingly powerful force in the world. Many people all across the world are saying that “AI is taking over the world” when really this is just dramatic. Or is it actually happening? AI has already been implemented into our daily lives when it comes to communication, schoolwork, decision making and adults at work.
AI basically exists in all the technology we use today. Smartphones rely on AI for voice assistants, facial recognition and voice texting. Streaming services and social media platforms use AI algorithms to recommend videos, music and posts based on user behavior. When you really look at it, we are using AI more than we realize.
AI is also playing a major role in decision-making. Governments and companies are using AI to predict crime patterns, evaluate loan applications and assist with medical diagnoses. Although these tools can be helpful, they raise ethical questions about bias, privacy and accountability. When decisions are made by algorithms, it can be difficult to understand or challenge the outcome.
I remember just two years ago I was sitting in class not even really knowing what AI is, let alone using it. Today I feel we use AI platforms–ChatGPT being the biggest one–every single day. When asked: has AI taken over the world, Mr. Mac said, “It hasn’t taken over the world, but it has a huge influence on how people view things.” He also added, “AI is always listening to you, they are not supposed to but they do.” It’s hard to imagine where AI is going to be five years from now. Sophomore Malia Moore said, “It’s going to get either worse or become higher quality.”
Artificial intelligence has been an advanced technological tool that enables machines to learn, reason, understand all sorts of things. AI has created new jobs, taken away jobs, sped up medicine, helped power our everyday lives, and made things easier for the social world.
