LOHS students participate in annual Tuba Christmas

December 14, 2019

For years, Portland has been home to a holiday tradition, shared by music lovers alike. The 29th annual Tuba Christmas was held at Pioneer Square on Saturday, Dec. 14. For an hour and a half, audience members enjoyed singers, contests, solos and the harmonious sound of brass instruments in the heart of downtown.

Hundreds of low brass, including euphoniums, baritones and tubas, gathered together after hours of practice to perform in front of a large crowd. Of these players, seniors Bode Trappett and Daniel Michtom, both members of the LOHS Wind Ensemble, performed for the crowd.

“Playing in this group was an incredible opportunity,” Trappett said. “It was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to play and have fun.”

So, if you’re interested in a melodious performance of beautiful holiday songs, attend the next performance for lots of free and spirited fun. And if you’re a low brass player, don’t hesitate to register next year for Tuba Christmas and join the longstanding tradition that has never failed to spread the holiday cheer.
