Volleyball faces losses against Canby and West Linn

The volleyball team lost their hard-fought battle against Canby on Sept. 10. During the home opener, seniors Jensen Kaelin, Jordan Noble and Julia Woolf led the team in their efforts to beat the Cougars.

“We worked together well as a team and stayed aggressive offensively while executing on defense,” said Noble, an outside hitter for the team.

“In practice our coaches have put a strong emphasis on serving and serve receive because in the end it often comes down to who can serve and pass better,” she explained.

The two teams battled between each set, with Canby winning the first, Lake Oswego the second, Canby the third and Lake Oswego the fourth to tie up the score. In the fifth set, Canby was up 14-13.

“For the last point, I blocked the hitter on the other team. The ref said that I was the last one who touched (blocked) the ball before it went out of bounds but my whole team and coach swore that we saw the other player touch it before it hit the ground,” Noble described.

“Regardless, it was a tough call for the ref to make and while this one didn’t go our way, hopefully the next one will.”

On Sept. 24, the Lakers faced the West Linn Lions for their seventh game of the season. Despite many long rallies and impressive saves, they fell short and lost 3-0.

Their luck against big cats has not been ideal, however, hopefully it will improve for the following matches.
