In August of 2025, a well-known Youtuber by the name of “Schelp” was banned from the popular gaming platform Roblox. Roblox is an online platform primarily used by children to connect and play various games with others online. However, some recent controversies have shed light on how Roblox deals with people who try to stop child predators and their future intentions with the app.

Youtuber Schelp is widely known for helping work with authorities to catch child predators on Roblox, but in August, Roblox sent Schelp a cease-and-desist letter, banning him from the platform and preventing him from protecting young gamers on the platform. Soon after receiving this news, Schelp posted on Youtube the news regarding his termination from Roblox. Shortly after, the internet decided to support Schelp, posting “#freeschelp” and reprimanding Roblox for banning him. 

News of his ban spread like a wildfire, causing many famous Youtubers such as Charlie White, otherwise known aspenguinz0) and Jidon Armani Adams, Jidion on Roblox, to speak up in support of Schelp. This movement of internet personalities coming to aid Schelp gave lots of attention to the situation at hand, so much so that TV star Chris Hansen, famous for “To Catch a Predator,” is now working with Schelp to create a documentary about child predators and how Roblox deals with them. 

The heat on Roblox was hot even before this incident, as CEO David Bazucki said he wanted to turn Roblox into a dating app. Bazucki proposed to have Roblox be a dating site for people 18+. While this idea seems safe and logical on the surface, the main problem is the fact that a majority of Roblox users are minors, and people can easily fake identification. While Bazucki said “I think of it as a platform to help loneliness and help bring connection,” the only thing that the internet thinks is lonely and needs more connection is the report feature on Roblox.
