The Lake Oswego High School Green Team is a club here at LOHS with the goal of fighting back against climate change in Lake Oswego and the greater Portland Metro Area. The group works to bring effective change on the local and statewide levels.
Green Team was founded in 2019 at LOHS and quickly gained status as an Oregon Green School that spring. An Oregon Green School is a certified institution that implements sustainability efforts within its facility. Since then, the student-led club has continued to work actively to help fight back against the growing issue of climate change. The club works directly with Oregon state legislators on drafting and implementing bills in order to hopefully pave the path for a healthier climate here in Oregon.
Recently, the Green Team competed at the 2026 Climathon Teen Climate Innovation Challenge. This challenge brings teams together to present their ideas on how to improve the climate in their local communities. The LOHS Green Team earned first place at this competition. Sophomore Akmal Mohaideen said their presentation proposed the idea of “creating a class here at LOHS that focuses on Earth’s climate in order to help raise awareness amongst the student body.” They also proposed “implementing more green spaces on building roofs” in order to offer more places for plant life.
This club is a great way to get involved and work on a project that has the potential to truly make a difference. If you are interested, the club meets weekly on Thursdays at lunch in Ms. Foster’s room and everyone is welcome to join!
