Hey Lakers, have you heard of the new Rec center? It only opened a little less than a year ago and was a huge project for our town, costing a whopping 46 million dollars. But is it really worth that price tag? Well, here’s what LOHS students had to say about it:
Pat Thomas, a sophomore who frequently visits the LORAC, thinks it is pretty fun. “I really like it,” Thomas explained. “The staff are all friends, and they have lots of things to do. Recently, I have been golfing there, and it’s pretty fun, but the prices are pretty high for just a bucket of golf balls.”
Sophomore Cayden Carrol thinks the rec center is wonderful because it has nice people, great staff and it feels inviting to be there. “The people there are always so nice and will invite you to play in games,” said Carrol. “Last time I went there and some people asked if I wanted to play volleyball. I didn’t, but it was still nice to offer.” This just shows how kind the people at the LORAC are.
Ryan Jumnongnart, another sophomore, has been looking forward to its opening since its construction began but is on the fence about it, explaining his belief that this money could have probably gone to more important causes: “I like the gym, and I go there very often. It’s not huge, but never super crowded, and it feels like a nice place to work out. But I’m not so sure it was worth 45 million dollars.”
It seems the general consensus is that the LORAC is pretty great, and people seem to think it’s a fun and friendly place to be. There are still some large drawbacks, such as its huge cost, that are hard to justify, but if you haven’t been there yet, you should head down to check it out and let us know what you think!
