Recently the Lake Oswego High School library has taken over a new policy. During lunch, only a select number of people are allowed into the library, and only for strictly studying. After the spots run out, it is closed to anyone else, even if they want to study. This has gotten very controversial because the library is generally the only spot to study. 20 students around our school commented about their opinions on this new rule — whether they like the new policy, don’t like it or don’t care about it.
Five LOHS students said they like the new system. Some explained that the library is now much quieter, allowing them to study better. One person also argued that there are enough spots for the people who really need to study to be able to study. They said that before the new rule, people would go to the library and treat it like a hangout spot, often being loud and disrupting the people studying. That is why they like the new rule.
Six LOHS students said they didn’t mind or care about the new system. The most common reason was that they haven’t gone into the library during lunch, so it didn’t affect them. Though this was the case, two people said that they were fine with the old and new system, because it didn’t make as much change as people are claiming. One person said that there are still enough spots for most people to get into the library.
The other nine LOHS students said that they dislike the new policy because the library was a popular spot for people to sit during lunch. Some students said that there was no reason for them to create this policy, when most people were happy with how it was. They appreciated having a great spot to sit at lunch that was quiet and comfortable. Another person said that the library was the best spot during lunch, and now once the spots have run out he has nowhere to go.
In conclusion, the new policy of the library has gotten lots of diverse feedback, ranging from hating it to loving it. It is an extremely controversial rule change that has the majority of people confused and upset.
