Local Businesses to support for the Holidays!

Olivia Ellerbruch, Editor-In-Chief

With the upcoming holiday season, there is an especially dire need for extra joy due to this tumultuous year we have had. One of the most important things that brings joy during the holiday season is obvious: gifts. Many have decided to start gift shopping early this year, and there is a focus more on supporting and purchasing from small businesses because they have faced so many hardships from the collapsed economy. Small businesses need our help more than ever, so by compiling this list, I hope that you find a few new shops to go support!

Miss Hannah’s Popcorn- Miss Hannah’s is a small, family-owned popcorn shop in Bridgeport Village. It’s focus is specialty popcorn, with savory flavors such as garlic peppercorn and smokin’ chipotle cheddar, and sweet flavors like snickerdoodle and tutti frutti! You can’t go wrong with a fun and delicious treat for the perfect gift!

Cafe Marzocca- This is a local favorite of mine that always hits the spot. Located on Boones Ferry Road, it has delicious coffee, and fits the comfy and local vibe much better than any Starbucks ever could. The owner is so kind and it has such a true Italian feel to it. A gift card here is a perfect gift for any coffee lover you know.

Glam Rush- Glam Rush is a Black owned business that specializes in lots of beauty treatment options, and sells many skincare items. Whether it’s giving the gift of a facial appointment, or buying one of their skin care kits, Glam Rush is in the Humboldt District and is a perfect place to shop for anyone you know who loves skincare and beauty.

Annie Bloom’s Books- If you know an avid book reader, this is the perfect place to shop for their gift. My family has been going to Annie Bloom’s for years and they have never failed to satisfy. The employees give incredible recommendations and it is such a positive environment! For this store it is located in Multnomah Village, and you have to order online and pick up!

Peachtree Gifts- Located only a 15 minute drive away in Multnomah Village, Peachtree is the perfect shop full of fun knick-knacks to give someone for the holiday season. While you can certainly curate your own perfect gift with their items, they also sell ready-made gift boxes that feature a variety of themes perfect for anyone! A few of their themed gift boxes include a LaCroix Box, a Chocolate Lovers Box and an RBG Supreme Box!

Artzyivy- Artzyivy is a Black owned business that specializes in handmade jewelry. They have beautiful earrings and necklaces with so many cool colors! Their jewelry is truly one of a kind and brings so much fun and color to add to any outfit! They accept payment through venmo or cash app and their instagram handle is @artzyivy. Shipping is only $5.

Tender Loving Empire- Tender Loving Empire is a shop that specializes in a variety of items including stationery, books, houseware and apparel. This store also makes care packages that are pre-made, or you can create your own! Another fun feature of this store is that they have a special section on their website where you can support Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) makers. The shop has so many varying items that you will most definitely be able to find the perfect gift there.
