LOHS baseball is swinging for the fences this season and hoping to make this season count, especially the 14 seniors on the team wanting to make their final high school season a core memory. Over spring break, the team made the trip to Arizona to play in the Coach Bob Tournament AZ where they held the win-loss-tie record of 1-2-1. They finished preseason with an overall record of 5-5, and started to find their rhythm going into league play where they faced off Tigard first and went 2-1 in the series. They are ranked high in the TRL as well as in the state for 6A, and they’re looking to carry their momentum into the playoffs.
Senior Hudson Hammersley commented about his experience on the team and the team’s plans for the season. The Lakers hope to accomplish “winning a state championship” which they’ll work towards by having “dedicated and intentional practices” in preparation to reach their ultimate goal. The team has had a consistent showing in the playoffs throughout the years, but the past two seasons have led to early exits in the first round; the team is hoping to snap that streak this year and change the trajectory so they can move further in the rounds and hopefully to the championship game. The team has already dealt with some setbacks, but to ensure the season isn’t impacted, they intend to bounce back unscathed by “staying together and fighting through setbacks as a family, not as individuals,” which highlights the team’s pillars of passion, commitment and excellence. They show passion by playing their hearts out on the field and reflecting their love not only for the game but for the jersey they wear as well. They resemble commitment in their persistence throughout the season with showing up each day ready to put in the work and willingness to fight for one another. They also demonstrate excellence by training and building their strengths to grow the program and stack up wins.
Make sure to support Laker baseball for the remainder of their season and cheer them on as they work towards their goal of getting to the championship game.
